My Story: “ I would like to thank Dr Rizk and also share my story of gastric bypass with those considering it.
It’s going on 3 years now since my surgery. When I first decided to consider the surgery I was so worried about what friends and family would think. Then I took the first step of going to Dr. Rizk’s office for information and a consultation. I was so nervous and also very embarrassed to find myself Morbidly obese, a term that made me cringe. Dr. Rizk made me feel at ease from the very first appointment. My embarrassment took a back seat, as all the nurses were so kind and considerate. Dr. Rizk gave me hope, the hope I had been looking for after years of struggling with my weight and my health deteriorating.
I had been diagnosed diabetic years before and with each check up with the family doctor; my blood sugars were worse and I was prescribed more meds. The pricking of my fingers became a part of my day that I hated. Then came high cholesterol and then other meds to protect my kidneys from the diabetes. Then there were meds for the heal spurs and cortisone shots in my feet. I was on a downward spiral with my health. I couldn’t walk uphill when I went to get the mail without breathing so heavy I felt I would drop dead. I could see the writing on the wall. There I was pushing 300 pounds and with children that I didn’t want to see me die young or at best live a sickly life.
I lost approximately 128 pound in about 10 months time. The first 100 pounds in 5 months! My life changed so quickly! My health returned and I began to feel a decade plus younger. Within weeks I was on no meds at all and all my blood sugars came back as normal within just a couple of months. I feel Dr. Rizk and his staff played a very big part in my success by giving me hope again as well as making me feel at ease. If he or his staff had made me feel at all embarrassed by my obesity I may have just went back home kicking myself even more than I was for the mess I had made of my life.
I looked forward to my check ups knowing they would be cheering me on and celebrating my success with me not just for me. He suggested joining the support group that was just starting up which also played a big part in my success. The surgery was and is a wonderful tool for a healthy life again. I do believe Dr. Rizk, his nurses and staff also were a tool. Whenever I go in for a check up or see Dr. Rizk at a meeting he makes me feel that my success truly matters to him as if it is his success as well. My obesity did not have to take my life or rob me of pleasure with my family.
